AMP Student Sponsorship

There are 7 AMP students who are studying at the Tamil Eelam Health Services. There are 6 female and 1 male students. All students wished to apply for medicine but due to the quota system they were not able to enter the medical college. They commenced their studies in 2000 under the guidance of Dr Suriyakumaran. Due to the situation in the North and East of Sri Lanka with the lack of doctors and willing doctors to come to the Vanni Region, the lack of facilities such as electricity, communication, transport the students are 1 year behind in their studies. This is on top of the many years wasted by multiple-displacement, conflict and lack of facilities.

They attend the lecture room daily hoping that some one will teach them! Dr Sathiyamoorthy, Dr Vigneswarren, Dr Suthaharan, Dr Sivapalan, Dr Dharmendra, Dr Sujanthan, Dr Solomon, Dr Chandrakumar come to teach when they are able to, as they are busy with hospital work and due to limited phone lines and lack of transport it is often ad hoc teaching.

They are lacking medical books, cupboard for safe keeping of books, white board and stationary. The students are struggling financially. They should have completed their studies and be working, each earning 10,000Rs per month (£67).

To help support their studies and encourage lecturers to come and teach we feel a bursary for each student for the next 12 months would help meet their needs and the running of their course.

The AMP course is a 3 year course which has many aspects taken from the MB BS 5 year University course:

Course Content:

1st Year: 2nd Year: 3rd Year:
Anatomy
Physiology

Pathology

Microbiology
